I grew up in an era where the tagline “Batteries not included”, was boiler plate for every product requiring them. Then something changed about 20 years ago, and it was pleasing that battery operated products were shipped, ready to go.So it was unexpected that these “Road Flares” had to have 3 AAA’s supplied with each disk.Adding the batteries is difficult. the tiny tabs you must find to separate the back from the front will require a tool you are unlikely to posses, and may need careful prying with a steak knife. Then the soft plastic shell, a common feel for water resistant electronic devices, has some adhesive qualities that continues to grab, rather than release. Adding to the difficulty of replacing the batteries.But repetition breeds comprehension, and after doing 8 of them, I was getting the hang of it, and can do each one in under 5 minutes.The packaging is great and they work fine, though you have to read the instructions on how to activate, and deactivate the ring lights, or the white flash light, as the single button is multi-purpose.Overall, the quality of these disks seems high.

I like the size, the bag, the idea, etc…. brightness is “OK” for daytime, not near as bright as a road flare would be, and they look great in the dark. But, the battery compartment is a hassle. There are two screws you have to remove and then the back, snug fitting, cover. Not an impossible task, but since these are battery operated and I will rarely, maybe even never use them. That means I can’t keep the batteries separate to then insert when needed. We’ve all had things get ruined when batteries leak and this would be no exception. If you could get to the batteries easily without needing a screwdriver and five mins of effort, these would be just about perfect.

A similar product currently being advertised offers this type device for $9.99 each with a warning the company will be stopping production. That is why I looked to Amazon and found this identical product for $5.00 each in all of the available quantity options. I haven’t needed this type product in years but you never know when you might need it so, I have them powered up and in the car. Better to NOT need them than NOT have them!
